There is a famous idea called the Dunbar Number.
The human brain can only maintain a limited number of meaningful relationships.
Around 150 is the commonly cited number.
I don't want 10,000 relationships.
I want a smaller number of people I genuinely know.
People whose stories I remember.
People whose work I care about.
People I want to see win.
So I'm opening up a small part of my 150.
It means I become a little more invested in your journey. I might:
Remember what you're building.
So you don't have to explain your entire story every time we talk.
Check in on you.
Sometimes because I think you need help.
Sometimes because I saw something that reminded me of you.
Sometimes just because I wanted to know how you're doing.
Make introductions.
When I meet someone and think, “Holy shit, these two should know each other.” I'll connect you.
Give you advice.
Not generic LinkedIn advice. My actual opinion.
Even when it's uncomfortable.
Send opportunities your way.
A person. A company. A job. An investment. An event. A crazy idea.
Whatever feels relevant.
Help you think.
Sometimes you don't need an answer.
You just need someone who has seen enough things to help you look at the problem differently.
Celebrate you.
Because winning alone is boring.
